Terri Werner

Terri Werner is an HR professional with significant experience as a Business Partner in the areas of leadership development, coaching leaders for high performance and accountability, employee and labor relations, workforce planning, and change management.  Skilled in Department of Labor and EEO compliance, HRIS, compensation, and payroll administration. People-oriented, efficient, self-starter with a consistent record for performing beyond expectations and building skills and capability in individuals and of teams.   A leader who operates with a high accountability standard; getting things done and doing so by growing the skills and abilities of individuals and teams   

Workforce Planning

• Led the team that developed the first comprehensive and integrated workforce plan for Xcel Energy that encompassed 8 states, and all business units comprised of 14,000 employees.

  • Developed framework for data intake, analysis methods, risk rating scheme, and a scanning process of external and internal environmental factors to be incorporate into plan assumption.

  •  Developed process to incorporate WFP assumption into annual budget cycle

  •  Developed training materials and conducted training for all HR Business Consultants to implement the plan across the separate business jurisdictions.

  •  Developed and led a team approach and structure to address key issues identified in the WFP process. 

  •  Led the communication plan regarding WFP findings and focus across the organization

  •  Developed an Advisory Board of Executives to support alignment and implementation of workforce plan solutions. 

  •  Value of this process recognized by the organization resulting in additional 4 full time staff added

 Corporate University

•  Led the design and development of a Corporate University including a leadership development and certified management program with University certification and credits. 

•  Established a partnership with Winona State University for onsite employee learning

•  Established a formal Mentor program

• Established a formal succession planning process using leadership competencies, leaning capability and performance measures of individual potential

Automated payroll system -

•  Led the design of the first automated payroll system process from a historical, manual piecework system of calculating wages.

• This system was very successful and used by the organization for 15 years before switching systems to ADP.  

• The project required significant payroll expertise and partnership with the IT programmer dedicated to the project in addition to developing a detailed and controlled testing process. 

•  It required effective communication and training for the payroll staff switching to the new system. 

Business Partner

• Led strategy to move performance of HR Business Consulting to HR Business partner

•  Implemented highly successful Military recruiting strategy for nuclear organization

• Coordinated Nuclear HR transition/acquisition back to Utility

•  Conducted labor relations, contract negotiations, successful union avoidance campaign, and established on site MARC Protocol group

• Compensation team member – support design, training, and implementation of new compensation philosophy, strategy, and program

• Taleo team member – support design, training, and implementation of new recruiting system

•  Merger and Acquisition – team member for acquiring two manufacturing facilities in Kentucky and Missouri. 

• Coordinated re-absorption of nuclear HR activities from NMC to Xcel Energy.
